18 Mariah Carey Songs That Deserved To Reach #1
We curated this list in celebration of Mariah Carey's '#1 To Infinity' compilation.

Mariah Carey has been unlucky in love of late. That’s hard enough to deal with at the best of times, but even worse when your billionaire boyfriend dumps you in the middle of filming a reality show. But don’t worry, Mimi’s gonna make it through the rain with a little help from fake love interest/backing dancer Bryan Tanaka and a moody new single! The pop legend shared a longer preview of “I Don’t” last night (January 29) and it’s a throwback to the contemplative slow jams of Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel.

“Gave you everything that you needed, I was even down to repeat it,” Mariah sings over rolling percussion. “Said that you’d always be mine, feeding me nothing but lies.” The song really soars when the Lamb Whisperer schools her ex in matters of the heart. “Cause when you love someone you just don’t treat them bad,” she preaches on the Donnell Jones-interpolating chorus. “You messed up all we have. Probably think that I’m coming back, but I don’t.” The finished version of the ballad may or may not have a YG feature and arrives in full on February 3.

It all sounds pretty good so far. As usual with Mariah, “I Don’t” is a little retro and very much in her comfort zone of mid-tempo R&B. (Think “Triumphant,” “Infinity” and all of the Elusive Chanteuse singles). While it probably isn’t going to win her any new fans, Mimi is doing it for the Lambs at this point and they are already bleating happily. Watch the legendary hitmaker do her thing in the studio below.
