Carly Rae Jepsen’s 4th Album Is Slowly Coming Together
Carly Rae Jepsen has been chipping away at the follow-up to holy pop bible, E•MO•TION, since (at least) May, 2016. The Canadian pop star is nearing the finish line, but there’s still a lot of work to be done. “Flight to Sweden today,” she kindly informed fans via Twitter. “Mucho work to do on this new album. Excited.” That destination isn’t surprising given the LP’s strong Swedish connection. The 31-year-old has already spent time in Stockholm crafting hits with Noonie Bao (“Run Away With Me”) and Patrick Berger (Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own”).
The “I Really Like You” diva is also referencing the patron saints of Swedish pop. “I can’t explain what we’re doing right now, but we’re very much into disco-y things, whatever this next album may or may not turn out to be,” Carly told the Vancouver Sun early last year. “But I’m very much referencing ABBA a lot.” As for other collaborators? Well, she hit the studio with The Knocks and Jack Antonoff shortly before Christmas and has been working with PC Music’s Danny L Harle. Hopefully, there’s a sequel to “Super Natural” on the way.
Whatever direction the album takes, things are slowly coming together. After all, Carly recently held a listening party for her team (below).
