Betsy Interview
Betsy talks fashion, debut EP 'Fair' and her unlikely path to the pop world.

Betsy’s journey to pop stardom is perfect fodder for a high-camp Lifetime biopic. Born on a goose farm in rural Wales, the blond bombshell fled to London to purse a career in the fashion industry (she ended up designing for Balenciaga) — only to realize that music was her true passion. The budding diva went home, taught herself how to use GarageBand and generated a mountain of hype in 2016 with stellar singles “Fair,” “Wanted More” and “Lost & Found.” I liked them all, but “Waiting” eclipses them on every level.

In fact, Betsy’s latest is one of the first great singles of 2017. A soaring, soulful love song with disco strings and a massive chorus, “Waiting” is both a relic of the ’70s and quintessentially of the here and now with its hodgepodge of influences. It reminds me vaguely of Paloma Faith’s “Picking Up The Pieces,” which is obviously a very good thing. At this rate, the Welsh warbler’s debut LP is shaping up to be a thing of beauty. Watch the video, which finds our heroine serving looks, up top.
