Shakira turns 40 today (February 2). I know, it’s hard to believe. She hasn’t aged a day since the release of “Whenever Wherever” and is still the reigning queen of Latin-pop. The enduring hitmaker celebrates the important occasion by releasing a surprise salsa version of “Chantaje.” It’s extremely cute (try not swinging your hips) and comes with a new-ish video, which is largely comprised of outtakes from the original combined with an extended dance scene with duet partner, Maluma.
While this version is destined to find its niche, “Chantaje” is a chart-conquering phenomenon. The sexy banger has cracked the top 10 in most international markets and has already racked up more than 150 million streams on Spotify. That’s nothing compared to the popularity of the video, which has been watched a whopping 578 million times on YouTube. Those are the kind of numbers Rihanna and Taylor Swift put up — another reminder that Shakira is still killing it at 40, while many of her contemporaries have given up and moved to Las Vegas.
