Rita Ora's New LP Is Still Happening
Rita Ora's sophomore album feels like an urban legend, but it's still happening.

Rita Ora’s sophomore album exists and she will be releasing the lead single in April. The America’s Next Top Model host casually let the information slip while signing autographs after the Brit Awards (see video below). I’ll wait until I get a presser announcing the release date before getting too excited, but she sounds pretty confident. The 26-year-old has been working on the opus (she’s had to scrap it and start over a couple of times) since at least 2014. Rita is adamant, however, that it will be worth the wait.

“I’ve worked with some incredible people, like Stargate, and I’ve really taken it back into time,” she told Billboard recently. “Even Nile Rodgers put down some cool guitar riffs on there… I wrote everything on this record, it’s all live music, obviously mixed with some great beats. It’s all about melody and my love for soul and harmonies. It’s the first time I’ve ever been proud of my music.” I’m offended, Ora was a good album! But I’m also intrigued by Rita’s passion project, particularly with it’s London-based theme.

“Being from the U.K., and having that love for grime music and English rap, the Skeptas and the Giggs of the world that we’ve got [representing for] our youth, that is very important to me,” the “Body On Me” diva elaborated. “There’s a song called ‘I’m Not Afraid,’ that talks about everything that people may think I’ve run away from. There’s a song called ‘Soul Survivor.’ It’s not a dwelling record — this is a happy record. It’s about breaking through. It’s like a rebirth.” We should get the first taste of it within months. Hopefully.
