Era Istrefi & Felix Snow’s “Redrum” Is A Worthy Follow-Up To “BonBon”

Era Istrefi demolished the language barrier in 2016 when “BonBon,” an obscenely catchy banger in her native Albanian, charted around the globe. The 22-year-old soon landed a US record deal and promptly dropped an English-language version. Something was lost in translation there, but she gets it very right on the follow-up. A collaboration with Felix Snow (the man behind Kiiara’s “Gold” and one third of Terror Jr), “Redrum” is an electronic fever dream with an instantly hummable hook.

“I don’t care about your money or your fancy cars, some people call me bunny, I can treat you like a Czar,” Era coos over strummed guitar. “Sweet like honey, sticky like gum, chew you like a cannibal red, redrum.” (At least, I think that’s what she’s saying). Felix then pulls the trigger with an avalanche of dreamy synths and oriental-sounding strings. At 2:49 minutes, “Redrum” never outstays its welcome and suggests, contrary to early comparisons with Rihanna and Sia, that her lane might be a little more leftfield. Stream the song below.
