Nicki Minaj Channels Lil’ Kim At Paris Fashion Week With Nipple Pasty
Nicki Minaj raised eyebrows as she channeled Lil’ Kim at Paris Fashion Week. The Pinkprint rapper arrived at the Haider Ackermann show with a one-shoulder black top exposing her left breast, which was only covered with a single Agent Provocateur nipple pasty. This look recalls what Lil’ Kim wore to the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards — a mermaid-inspired, breast-bearing custom jumpsuit that had Diana Ross reeling as she reached over to jiggle Kim’s left boob.
Of course, Lil’ Kim’s influence can be found throughout the music industry, whether Miley Cyrus dresses as her for Halloween, Solange invokes her image for A Seat at the Table, or Rihanna calls her a personal fashion icon. But The Notorious K.I.M. has long accused Nicki of “identity theft,” particularly when the latter nodded to Kim’s Hardcore photo shoot for her Sucka Free mixtape.
“When you see [Lady] Gaga, you see Madonna — but Madonna never hated on Gaga,” Nicki said in 2010. “Why in the black community we gotta hate on each other instead of saying ‘Thank you for showing me love, thank you for keeping my name alive?’ The same way she opened doors for me, I’m opening doors for her. Nobody was playing your music and you damn sure couldn’t get an interview to save your life. You getting interviews and every time you do interviews they’re asking you about Nicki Minaj.”
