Dami Im will represent Australia at Eurovision 2016 with "Sound Of Silence."

Australia was randomly (at least from a geographic perspective) asked to participate in Eurovision in 2015 and placed a very respectable fifth with Guy Sebastian’s “Tonight Again.” That prompted a second invitation and Dami Im came agonizingly close to winning with “Sound Of Silence.” (She came second). Will it be third time lucky for the competition’s interlopers? The Aussies are sending 17-year-old X Factor winner Isaiah this time around and his entry, “Don’t Come Easy,” is impressive.

Produced by DNA, the track showcases Isaiah’s vocal chops. “No I don’t, don’t wanna mess with your head, but my love, it’s hard to love again,” he croons over piano. “It don’t easy and it don’t come cheap. Been burnt too many times to love easily.” I’m not sure how it will fare amid the general corniness and cheese of Eurovision, but it’s a great song that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Sam Smith album. It also suggests that the international success of debut single, “It’s Gotta Be You” (45 million Spotify streams and climbing), was not a fluke.

“I’m really honored to be in this position,” Isaiah says of his participation in the competition. “I thought X Factor was up there, this has gone way above it. I’m really grateful and I want to inspire not only indigenous kids but everyone and show them that your dreams can come true.” Listen to his soulful entry up top.
