Meet PRISTIN: Your New Favorite K-Pop Girl Group

South Korea churns out girl groups faster than Taylor Swift goes through squad members, making it hard for the casual K-pop fan to figure out who they should be listening to. Well, meet PRISTIN — a group that has been building Next Big Thing buzz for months despite being named after what sounds like a household cleaning product. The 10-member troupe are the latest act to come from label Pledis Entertainment, best known for producing After School, one of the heaviest-hitters in the last generation of girl groups.

The group’s debut single, “Wee Woo”, is a guitar-driven ditty produced by Korean hitmaker BUMZU and Sweden’s Gustav Karlstrom. With a rather subdued chorus (at least by K-pop’s totally OTT standards), “Wee Woo” doesn’t sound like much at first, but after a few spins it proves to be deceptively addictive. It sounds a lot like one of Girls Aloud’s more creative moments, although, you could really say that about 80 percent of Korean girl group singles. The quirky production has already polarized K-pop fans, so it’ll be interesting to see how the track goes down with your average music lover.
