The past, present and future collide in Lana Del Rey's cosmic "Love" video.

Lana Del Rey announced the title of her 4th LP this morning (March 29) in a bewitching black-and-white video. Lust For Life is “coming soon” and promises to be the dark-pop goddess’s salve for all the turmoil going on around us. “When I’m in the middle of making a record, especially now when the world is in the middle of such a tumultuous period, I find I really need to take this space for myself, far away from real life to consider what my contribution to the world should be in these dark times,” she says from a magical den in the Hollywood sign.

“Each morning I have the luxury of asking myself, ‘What shall I cook up for the kids today? Something with a little spice? Something with a little bitterness but is ultimately sweet? Or shall I take the day off and turn down the fire and just take a moment to send my love to them over the ether?’ Because sometimes just being pure of heart and having good intentions and letting them be known is the most worthy contribution an artist can make.”

“So even though these times can feel a little bit crazy, they’re not so very different from what other generations have experienced at one time or another before,” the good witch of West Hollywood continues. “Amidst all the uncertainty, and as we transition out of one era into another one, there’s no place I’d rather be than smack dab in the middle of Hollyweird making this record for you. Because you and the music and this place are my love, my life, my lust for life.” There’s a lot to process here.

For starters, Lust For Life is a perfect title. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it shares the title of a famous biography about tortured artist Vincent Van Gogh and a classic 1954 movie about his life. There are layers to everything Lana does. Also, one of her magical ingredients is a giant “XO.” She tweeted those emojis on Monday night and The Weeknd retweeted them, leading to speculation that he’s involved on the album. Also, Lana is taking this witchcraft thing really seriously! Get excited for the Album of the Year by pressing play above.
