Flashback: Nicole's Sexy "Whatever U Like"
Nicole Scherzinger's "Whatever U Like" deserved to be a massive hit.

After reuniting for Destiny Fulfilled, the divas of Destiny’s Child turned their attention to solo endeavors. Beyonce started plotting world domination with I Am… Sasha Fierce, Kelly Rowland got to work on Ms. Kelly and Michelle Williams dabbled her toe in the murky waters of secular music with Unexpected. I love all three albums, but there’s a special place in my heart for the latter. It delivered fierce bops (“Stop This Car” and “Hello Heartbreak”), gorgeous ballads (“The Greatest”) and one of my favorite fuck-you anthems of all time (the amazing title track).

However, the project’s crowning glory was probably the infectious lead single. Co-written by Solange, “We Break The Dawn” deserved to be a chart-conquering smash. “Don’t let them turn on the lights, let us decide when they play that last song,” Michelle croons huskily on the chorus over a slick electro/R&B arrangement. “The night is done when we break the dawn.” While the track didn’t work at pop radio, it was a huge hit in clubs and is probably the reason why the singer’s subsequent gospel output is so lit. Revisit the gem below.
