Tori Amos Announces 15th LP, ‘Native Invader’

Tori Amos will release her first album since 2014’s Unrepentant Geraldines on September 8. The legendary singer/songwriter unveiled the cover of new LP, Native Invader, on social media over the weekend and also announced a European tour (see the dates here). As for her 15th opus? The 53-year-old gave the following description: “The songs on Native Invader are being pushed by the Muses to find different ways of facing unforeseen challenges and in some cases dangerous conflicts.”

“The record looks to Nature and how, through resilience, she heals herself,” Tori continues. “The songs also wrestle with the question: what is our part in the destruction of our land, as well as ourselves, and in our relationships with each other? In life there can be the shock of unexpected fires, floods, earthquakes, or any cataclysmic ravager — both on the inside and outside of our minds. Sonically and visually, I wanted to look at how Nature creates with her opposing forces, becoming the ultimate regenerator through her cycles of death and re-birth. Time and time again she is able to renew, can we find this renewal for ourselves?”

I’m very ready for Native Invader. Tori’s last album was a return to form, probably her best since Scarlet’s Walk, and she recently contributed a haunting ballad to the documentary Audrie & Daisy. While we wait for a taste of her new LP, let’s throw it way back to “Crucify” (below). After all, it’s Monday and I’m feeling moody.
