Perfume Named Top J-Pop Girl Group For Fifth Year Running
Perfume is one of Japan’s longest-running girl groups, and apparently still the biggest. The electro-pop trio just topped Nikkei Entertainment magazine’s girl group Talent Power Ranking list for the fifth year in a row, defeating the likes of AKB48, E-Girls and Momoiro Clover Z. The ranking is decided each year via an independent survey, which asks respondents to rate various public figures and celebrities on familiarity and interest level.
While some J-Pop fans consider Perfume’s glory days behind them, the girls are still a pretty big deal. Last year, their album Cosmic Explorer became their sixth number one in Japan, and their first to chart in the US when it cracked Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. They also toured North America for the second time and were praised for having “the best hair in music” by Vogue. Revisit one of their best bops, “Pick Me Up,” below.
