The last I heard from Madison Beer, she was belting out a perky synth-pop anthem called “All For Love.” That song was a total bop, but the Pop Gods didn’t smile on it and the 18-year-old parted ways with Island Records shortly thereafter. However, the “Unbreakable” diva clearly landed on her feet. Not only that, but she has completely reinvented herself. The rejuvenated singer returns with a biting kiss-off called “Dead,” which is repositions her as an alt-pop diva.

“Baby, no more showing up when you’re not sober, at my front door just to say you’re alone tonight,” Madison hisses in a verse. “Yeah, tryna fuck me and my mind up. It’s a reminder you’re a liar and you know I’m right.” If you think that’s brutal, wait for the chorus. “You say you can’t live without me, so why aren’t you dead yet?” Take that! What inspired the brooding bop? Being lied to by a lying, cheating boyfriend.

“It’s about a situation myself and so many others find themselves in when you feel ignored and not loved in a relationship, yet you’re still hearing empty words like ‘I can’t live without you,’ and it tears you up inside so I wanted to make the anthem for staying strong through this moment and not taking any shit!” she reveals in a press release. Listen to Madison’s edgy, relatable bop below.
