Kesha isn’t wasting time! The pop star returned today (July 6) with a new single called “Praying” and also revealed the title of her third LP. Rainbow drops August 11 and boasts a trippy cover, which evokes the ufo-centric artwork of Boston. How did she settle on that title? “[Lead single] ‘Praying’ was written about that moment when the sun starts peeking through the darkest storm clouds, creating the most beautiful rainbow,” the “Tik Tok” hitmaker explains in her Lenny Letter. “Once you realize that you will in fact be OK, you want to spread love and healing.”

That also appears to be the theme of the album. “There were so many days, months even, when I didn’t want to get out of bed,” Kesha revealed. “I spent all day wanting to go to sleep, and then when I did fall asleep, I had horrible night terrors where I would physically cry and scream through the dark. I was never at peace, night or day. But I dragged myself out of bed and took my emotions to the studio and made art out of them. And I have never been happier with a body of work as I am with this record.”

She’s certainly taking a different approach, working with artists as diverse as Eagles Of Death Metal and Dolly Parton. The former features on two tracks, while the queen of country joins Kesha on a cover of “Old Flames Can’t Hold A Candle To You,” a song her mother Pebe Sebert penned for Dolly in the ’80s. Other confirmed collaborators include Ricky Reed, who previously opened up about the pop star’s radical new sound, and Ben Folds. He comforted Kesha when she was denied a hug by Jerry Seinfeld and produced the title track.
