Still Pals: Sharon Stone Responds To Madonna’s Leaked Letter

Madonna Shades Sharon Stone In '90s Letter
Madonna calls Whitney and Sharon Stone "horribly mediocre" in a letter from the '90s.

Talk about keeping things classy. Last week Madonna came under fire when a private letter she wrote in the ’90s was put up for auction by one of her close friends. In the letter, the pop icon addressed the backlash that she faced and referred to then-rivals Whitney Houston and Sharon Stone as “horribly mediocre” in comparison to her unique artistry. “It’s so unequivocally frustrating to read that Whitney Houston has the music career I wish I had and Sharon Stone has the film career I’ll never have,” Madge wrote bitterly. The words could have ignited a feud with the celebrated actress, but she released an understanding statement that eliminated any threat of bad blood.

Sharon publicly responded to the shady letter and expressed her disbelief that is was released in the first place. She also assured the pop icon that there was no drama between them. “Know that I am your friend,” she declared before explaining that she related to Madonna’s past frustrations. “I have wished to be a rock star in some moments… have felt as mediocre as you described. We know, as only those who have survived so long that owning our own mediocrity is the only way to own our own strengths; to become all that we both have become. I love and adore you; won’t be pitted against you by any invasion of our personal journeys.” It’s safe to say that this crisis has been averted.

The “Material Girl” has yet to respond to the leaked letter or Stone’s kind words. In the midst of the furor, Madonna travelled to Malawi with her children to witness the opening of a children’s wing in a hospital that was funded by her Raising Malawi charity. At the celebratory event Malawian President Peter Mutharika thanked her for her dedication to helping the developing country. “You started by adopting four Malawian children, now we are adopting you as the daughter of this nation,” he said. Sounds like Madonna’s moved beyond any shade in her past and is focusing on lifting others up.
