Looks like Justin Bieber isn’t ready to give up his tenure at the top of the charts just yet. As “Despacito.” is finally starting to cool down on iTunes charts across the globe, he’s teaming up with in-demand producer BloodPop to unleash another single. Last night (August 13) the crooner hopped on Twitter to share what appeared to be lyrics from a new song, waiting until this morning to confirm that a single, titled “Friends,” is indeed dropping this Thursday, August 17. Justin also shared the track’s official cover, which depicts two birds battling it out over a smiling worm.

BloodPop produced and co-wrote a handful of tracks on the Canadian’s fourth LP Purpose including the emotional buzz track “I’ll Show You” and the album’s massive second single “Sorry.” The latter, which featured writing from Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter, became Bieber’s second song to top the Billboard Hot 100 and was a signature song on the release. Here’s hoping that they managed to recapture that magic when they returned to the studio this time around.

It’s unclear if “Friends” is a standalone project or if it will be appearing on a forthcoming project. The Biebs hasn’t released a new album since Purpose dropped in the last quarter of 2015 though he’s hardly been absent since then. The 23-year-old has popped up as a featured artist on a number of tracks, many of which have burnt up the charts and become certified hits. In 2016 he topped the charts alongside Major Lazer and MO on “Cold Water” and teamed up with DJ Snake on “Let Me Love You.” This year he was recruited by DJ Khaled to sing the chorus on “I’m The One,” hit the studio with David Guetta for a dance floor anthem “2U” and has a serious contender for song of the summer on Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s Latin crossover hit. Here’s hoping that “Friends” will be another massive release, and that it may kickstart another solo era. Check out some lyrics from the song and its official cover below!
