An Update On Kelly Clarkson's 8th Album
New record label, new era. Kelly Clarkson's 8th album is coming along nicely.

Kelly Clarkson’s new single could drop any day, but September 8 is the most likely release date. That’s when she takes the stage at Today as part of their Citi Concert Series. While the title of the pop star’s new track is still under wraps, we have a pretty good idea of the direction. The 35-year-old revealed that she’s working on a soulful pop album and named Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Aretha Franklin as major influences. Given that line-up, don’t be too surprised if she leads with a ballad.

“It’s my favorite thing I’ve ever done,” Kelly said of the project in a 2016 interview with People magazine. “It’s the first time I got to pick my label, because I just got out of my Idol contract. I’ve been dying to make this record since Idol,” she continued. “We’re still working on it, but we have a good batch of songs already and I can’t wait to sing them live. They’re amazing. After having a career for so long, it’s so weird that nobody knows [my sound] yet, so it’s going to be so good. It’s definitely a different chapter.”
