Camila Cabello Confirms “Havana” As Her Next Official Single
I’ve been struggling to muster any enthusiasm for Camila Cabello’s solo career. “Bad Things” was one of the worst songs of 2016 and “Crying In The Club” went in one ear and out the other. However, it’s indisputable that “Havana” is a stone cold bop. Produced by Pharrell and featuring a verse from Young Thug, the summery banger pays homage to the former Fifth Harmony diva’s Cuban heritage and allows her to carve out her own identity. It’s not surprising then that fans (and newcomers) are reacting positively.
The track, which cleverly hitches a ride to the Latin wave started by tracks like “Chantaje,” “Despacito” and “Mi Gente,” is already the 13th most streamed song on Spotify worldwide — racking up 38 million streams in less than a month. That was all the label needed to see before setting on it as Camila’s next single. “That’s why… we are making it a single!!!!!!!!” the 20-year-old tweeted in response to its streaming success. “Thank u so much for the love and support for a song that’s so close to my heart.”
