Jason Derulo's 'Swalla' Video
Jason Derulo, Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign get freaky, freaky in the candy-colored visual.

Jason Derulo is dancing through heartbreak in the lyric video for “If I’m Lucky.” Released today (September 1), it’s the second single from his forthcoming album 777, and it features writing from Justin Tranter and production from Mattman & Robin. The track finds the hitmaker looking for closure in a relationship where the feelings are still raw. “Who are you to say, that I didn’t love you?” he asks a former lover over a racing beat.

In an interview with Billboard, the 27-year-old explained that although the song was inspired by a breakup it was anything but a heartbroken anthem. “It comes from past relationships that you think most things are good, but for some reason or another, things just don’t work out,” he explained adding that “Hopefully that situation can pan out in the next life.” Pulling inspiration from Michael Jackson, the accompanying lyric video sees Derulo giving his best zombie impression as he and a horde of dancers deliver tight choreography in a large studio. Between his unsettling blue contacts and some intense makeup applications, the video is simultaneously fierce and disturbing.

“If I’m Lucky” follows “Swalla,” which featured Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolls $ign. The Caribbean-infused banger struggled at pop radio but became a streaming sensation and party staple. With a more traditional pop track on his hands, it is clear that Jason’s new album will be an eclectic mix. Check out the track’s dance-heavy lyric video up top.
