Sara Bareilles could be in the race for the Best Original Song Oscar. She contributes “If I Dare” to The Battle Of The Sexes, a film that reenacts Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs’ infamous tennis match. The track, which was co-written with composer Nicholas Britell, arrives on September 15. It is said to capture the heroine’s tenacity and strength of character. “Billie Jean is one of the great leaders of our time,” the “Brave” hitmaker explains. “Her courage, her conviction, and her willingness to take risks in order to make change are part of what makes her so powerful.”

“One pivotal chapter of her story comes to life so beautifully in the film, and I was honored to help write about it. Getting the opportunity to collaborate with Nick and his gorgeous score for the film, only made the project that much sweeter,” she continues. “We hoped to echo Billie Jean’s tremendous resilience in the face of adversity with the song, and capture some of her fierce drive and spirit.” of course, Sara is no stranger to channeling film characters having penned an entire musical based on 2007 cult classic Waitress.

It's more than just a match. #BattleoftheSexes
