Hurricane Harvey Telethon Announced
Music, film and TV superstars are coming together to raise money for Houston.

A raft of superstars came together last night (September 12) to show love for Houston. The Hand In Hand telethon, which was organized by Bun B and Scooter Braun, raised $44 million for victims of Hurricane Harvey and delivered a series of powerful messages with a sprinkling of entertainment thrown in. One of the highlights was Beyonce’s call for unity and togetherness. “Natural disasters don’t discriminate,” the Lemonade diva said. “They don’t see if you’re an immigrant, black or white, Hispanic or Asian, Jewish or Muslim, wealthy or poor.”

“It doesn’t matter if you’re from Third Ward or River Oaks, we’re all in this together. Seeing everyone of different racial, social and religious backgrounds put their own lives at risk to help each other survive, restored my faith in humanity.” Fellow Texan, Selena Gomez, was similarly impassioned. “No matter who we are, the differences we have suddenly did not seem to matter,” she expressed with tears in her eyes. “Since that day, we have joined together — neighbor helping neighbor, without stopping to think about race, religion or anything else.”

Just when you thought the telethon couldn’t get any more emotional, they moved on to the performances. Demi Lovato more than held her own during a sing-along of “With A Little Help From My Friends” with Brad Paisley, Cece Winans and Darius Rucker. The country/pop theme continued with Usher and Blake Shelton’s version of “Stand By Me,” while the always-brilliant Tori Kelly showed off her vocal chops by belting out “Hallelujah” with “Despacito” hitmaker Luis Fonsi.
