Joanne The Scammer Stars In Fergie’s “Tension” Video
Everything that could go wrong did go wrong with Fergie’s Double Dutchess. (There were endless delays, a last-minute label change and a calamitous leak, for starters). As such, it wasn’t exactly a surprise when the album debuted at a less-than-regal number 19 on the Billboard 200. While this is definitely a case of a sequel that falls well short of the original, there is still a lot to love about it. “Like It Ain’t Nuttin'” goes ridiculously hard, “You Already Know” is a banger for the ages and “Tension” stands out as the LP’s big dance-pop moment.
Produced by Alesso, “Tension” is futuristic disco in the mold of Janet Jackson’s (criminally underrated) “Rock With U” and Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors.” It throbs along nicely on a bed synths while Fergie sings about burning off a little steam on the dance floor. It took a couple of listens to really click for me, but now I’m obsessed and wondering why it wasn’t rolled out out as a single. Anyway, the video dropped yesterday (October 4) and it’s a skateboard-themed affair featuring a cameo by Joanne The Scammer. Watch up top.
