Bruno Mars' '24K Magic': Album Review
Does Bruno Mars deliver 24K gold on third LP '24K Magic'? Read our review.

This morning (October 10), Bruno Mars stopped by the Charlie Rose Show to perform a stripped-back rendition of his latest chart topping single, “That’s What I Like.” Joined by a live band and two backing vocalists, he performed the meteoric anthem under some atmospheric lighting. The set highlighted his voice and the playful lyricism and served as a reminder that the “24K Magic” crooner is always reliable to deliver a remarkable set.

The 32-year-old also sat down for a rare in-depth interview with host Charlie Rose to reflect on his rise to fame and the process of recording his third LP, 24K Magic. He discussed the struggle of competing with his own record-setting back catalogue as well as that of his peers. As a result, he explained that the goal is to make music that speaks to him. “If I can be happy with whatever song I write, and I’m genuinely proud of it then it doesn’t matter if it gets success or not. Because I can say that that’s the best I could do,” he said. The crooner also talked about his goals to bring live performances to life and reflected on some of his biggest hits in recent years.

As Bruno gears up for his debut primetime special, Bruno Mars: 24K Magic Live At The Apollo, next month it is interesting to see him rework some of his biggest hits. Still it is a little confusing why he would choose to revisit “That’s What I Like” when he could have promoted his current single, “Versace On The Floor.” Despite teaming up with Zendaya for the single’s seductive music video, he hasn’t given the single much love. Hopefully it gets a bit more attention next month, which could result in a bit of a resurgence. Until then watch his performance below and check out the full interview here.
