The Drop: Sharaya Summers & TYSM
Your guide to New Music Friday featuring gems from Sharaya Summers and TYSM.

A woozy slice of retro Cali-pop, Sharaya Summers’ “Light Of The Moon” stands out as one of the best debut singles of the year. The LA-based singer/songwriter proves it was no fluke with “Haunted” — another track that sounds like it was recorded in Laurel Canyon circa 1974. “I’m not the answer you wanted,” she sings on the drowsy chorus. “Think you know me well, but you don’t know my heart is still haunted.” This is all about the dreamy, shoe-gazing production and the newcomer’s light and airy voice.

”This is a song about the complexities of others people’s expectations for our lives,” Sharaya explains. “Family and lovers, not allowing us to change as we grow, and not embracing our darker sides as part of the whole package. Family history shaping us and affecting us in ways that we don’t grapple with until we are older it starts coming back to haunt us in our adult lives and relationships.” The overarching theme? “It’s a song about wanting to be known and loved for who I am, not what you think I am or who I was yesterday.”

We’re excited to premiere the track below.
