Julia Michaels stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform her Nervous System track “Worst In Me.” The song appears to be the third single from the mini-album, and she delivered another sublime vocal for its debut late night performance.

“Remember when I used to be happy for you,” she sang to a lover over a sparse instrumentation. The breakup anthem is about finding yourself at the end of a relationship, and the hitmaker’s voice revealed the depth of her feelings. She punctuated the track with emotionally fraught deep breaths and vocal hiccups as though she was forcing the words out and was afraid of breaking her partner’s heart.

The budding solo star also sat down for an interview with host Jimmy Fallon to reflect on her career as a songwriter for the stars and revealed whether or not she ever gets starstruck working with famous faces like Justin Bieber and Britney Spears. “The only time I ever truly get starstruck is when I hear them on the mic the first time,” she confessed. “When I’m in the studio with someone, we’re all human. We all cry the same. We bleed the same. And then I hear Gwen Stefani on the mic, and I’m like ‘oh my god,'” she said. She also explained her decision to move from writing to performing and why she selected “Issues” for her debut single

“Worst In Me” could be another solid hit for the 23-year-old. After “Issues,” just missed the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, the project’s second single, “Uh Huh,” didn’t find as much success. Her latest effort is more of the same earnest pop that made “Issues” a hit. With the right push, she may be able to dominate radio all over again.
