Sia Unleashes Icy Christmas Ballad “Snowman”

Sia continues her festive takeover with the unveiling of “Snowman,” ahead of the release of Everyday is Christmas. Unlike the LP’s tropical lead single, “Santa’s Coming For Us,” her latest is more of a lovelorn standard that we would expect from the Aussie. Released today (November 9), the Greg Kurstin-produced ode compares her lover to a fleeting snowman.

“Don’t cry snowman, don’t leave me this way. A puddle of water can’t hold me close, baby,” she bellows over a plodding production. There is a stark beauty to her delivery, and, although distinctly darker than typical Christmas releases, the song pulls from a similar sonic aesthetic with it’s twinkling piano keys. Only Sia would be able to put such a snowy spin on the dazzling holiday, but I’d have it no other way.

The album is shaping up to be a mixed bag of tricks, and it will be interesting to see if the rest of it is more melancholic like this or if it will be as unexpected as her first effort. Everyday Is Christmas drops November 17 and is available to pre-order now. Until then listen to “Snowman” below!
