Remy Ma & Lil’ Kim Bring The Heat In Their “Wake Me Up” Video
Remy Ma takes no prisoners on “Wake Me Up,” the first single from her sophomore LP. A collaboration with the legendary Lil’ Kim, the hypnotic banger is an old-school groove with ice-cold bars and lashings of attitude. There’s nothing pop or crossover about it, which makes it a breath of fresh air in a market oversaturated with toothless bops. “I wanted to pay homage to Kim,” the rapper told Beats 1 Radio. “I feel like she is like the Madonna of the hip-hop world to me. Her style is iconic, and I wanted to show homage and pay homage to that.”
That also comes through in the video. Directed by Eif Rivera and filmed on location in the Bronx, Remy & Kim’s visual serves looks and gritty luxury. The Queen Bee pioneered outrageous hip-hop fashion, so it’s only fitting that both ladies look fly and (rap) battle-ready. “Wake Me Up” could surprise everyone and cause serious damage on the charts. It’s already the most-added song on urban radio and this video will give it another burst of momentum. Remy’s 7 Winters & 6 Summers album is due in 2018. Watch the hip-hop royals in action up top.
