Carrie Underwood's 'Storyteller': Album Review
Read our thoughts on the singer's fifth studio album.

Carrie Underwood ended 2017 on a sour note, being rushed to hospital after falling at her home. Not only did the country superstar break her wrist, she also needed 40 to 50 stitches in her face. Well, the 34-year-old isn’t going to let a little bad luck slow her down. The “Before He Cheats” hitmaker is releasing a new single on Friday (January) called “Champion” and it features Ludacris. She shared a snippet of the soaring anthem (this is her most pop offering since “Quitter”) during the NFL Wild Card game between the Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Rams.

“They knock me down, I get up again,” Carrie sings on the song, which was commissioned by Sunday Night Football executive producer Fred Gaudelli. “I am the champion, you’re gonna know my name.” While this is just a quirky one-off for the NFL, it’s nice to hear the American Idol alum experiment with genre. I love that she has explored a more authentic country direction on Blown Away and Storyteller, but there’s a gap for a country-pop queen now that Taylor Swift is MIA and she is more than qualified to fill it.

Listen to a snippet of “Champion” below.
