Carrie Underwood and Ludacris have rolled out their joint single, “The Champion” today (January 12). Announced earlier this week, the release was commissioned by Sunday Night Football executive producer Fred Gaudelli, and it is the American Idol alum’s most pop-leaning project in years. Although the collaboration was unexpected to say the least, the end result is a massive and inspirational smash.

“I’ll be the last one standing. Two hands in the air, I’m a champion,” Carrie boldly declares over a sparse production on the opening lines. Things get even more uplifting as the beat swells underneath her on the chorus. “I am invincible, unbreakable, unstoppable, unshakable. They knock me down, I get up again,” she chants with the utmost conviction. Luda’s verse offers a bit of an edge but is more of the same as he breaks down what is required to be a true champion.

The energizing bop is a strong offering from the pair. It is all the more poignant considering Carrie suffered a setback at the end of 2017. The “Before He Cheats” hitmaker was rushed to the hospital for a broken wrist and other injuries after falling at her home. Since then she has opened up about the recovery process, and “The Champion” makes it clear that she will not let anything get in her way. Give the track a spin below!
