In 2008, the band Coldplay dropped their album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends with the track “Viva la Vida” released as the second single on the album. Since its release, it has been recognized as one of Coldplay’s signature songs. The song earned them the number one single spot in both the UK and the United States and even won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 2009. But a year before, guitar instrumentalist Joe Satriani sued Coldplay saying that the track took “substantial original portions” from his 2004 song “If I Could Fly.” Coldplay never admitted to being wrong but settled with Satriani for an undisclosed amount.
