Chart History: Camila Cabello’s ‘Camila’ Tops The Billboard Albums Chart
Camila Cabello has debuted at the top spot on the Billboard 200 Albums chart with her self-titled album. Moving an equivalent of 119,000 copies (65,000 of which were physical sales), the 20-year-old has managed to beat out the The Greatest Showman soundtrack after a contentious battle. It marks her first time atop the chart, though she had previously charted within the top 10 as a member of Fifth Harmony.
The honor makes her one of four female artists to top the chart with their debut album this decade. The feat was last accomplished by Meghan Trainor with Title in 2015. Others who have pulled it off include Ariana Grande and Kesha. It also makes the “Never Be The Same” siren one of a select number of women who have topped the albums chart on a solo venture after charting as part of a group. Billboard noted that she now joins a group including the likes of Beyonce, Gwen Stefani, Diana Ross and even Selena Gomez.
It is also worth noting that “Havana” is competing with Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” for the number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Camila’s breakaway single has previously peaked at number 2, but increased streams and album sales may be enough to edge out Ed this week. If so she will join the likes of Britney Spears who simultaneously topped both charts on a debut album. Check out Camila’s response to the news below!
