Mark Salling, known for his role as Puck on six seasons of Glee, has died of an apparent suicide today (January 30). TMZ broke the news early this morning that the 35-year-old had been found by police at a baseball field near his home in Sunland, California.

Michael Proctor, Salling’s lawyer, confirmed his death in a statement shared with EW. “I can confirm that Mark Salling passed away early this morning. Mark was a gentle and loving person, a person of great creativity, who was doing his best to atone for some serious mistakes and errors of judgment. He is survived by his mother and father, and his brother,” Proctor said. He also shared a request for privacy from Salling’s family at this time. “The Salling family appreciates the support they have been receiving and asks for their privacy to be respected.”

The actor made his debut on Glee in 2009 and was a recurring cast member through its conclusion in 2015. He was arrested on charges of possessing child pornography in December of 2015 and struck a plea deal in October of 2017 for the resulting case. After pleading guilty to the charges, he had to register as a sex offender and enter a treatment program. The sentence also included four to seven years of jail time and forbid him from making contact with anyone under the age of 18. EW reports that sentencing was expected to take place within the next few months.
