Colombian breakout star Maluma has his eyes set on world domination in 2018, and he knows exactly how to make that happen. The 24-year-old has made moves on his target American audience by working with the likes of Flo Rida, and he even hit the recording studio with Timbaland while working on his new album, F.A.M.E. But a collaboration with Selena Gomez is his end goal.

The dream team made headlines last year when they started following each other on Instagram. A collaboration seemed imminent; however, life is not always fair. In an interview with ET, Maluma revealed that he is still very interested in working with the “Bad Liar” siren.

“Selena, please, what’s the status!?” he joked. Opening up a bit more, he admitted that there had been some contact between their teams, but nothing has come together yet. “We were in touch! I told her that I wanted to work with her and I don’t know why the things [froze]. She was working on her album, I don’t know, but it would be a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with her.”

Although his dreams of working with Selena have not materialized, the crooner is riding high off a recent collaboration with Shakira on “Trap.” After joining forces on the global smash “Chantaje” in 2016, the pair reunited for a steamy midtempo. They unleashed a sexy video for the single last week, and it has already racked up an impressive 23 million views.

With his latest single “Corazon” charting on the Billboard Hot 100, 2018 is off to a good start for the budding global superstar. In his interview Maluma also listed Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber as potential collaborators. Hopefully he is able to get at least one of these in motion before his album drops!
