Skott’s Light & Airy “Stay Off My Mind” Still Has An Edge

Skott's Mysterious 'Mermaid' Video
Sweden's dark-pop princess is back with another staggeringly gorgeous single.

Skott carved out a niche as a purveyor of mysterious, otherworldly pop on songs like “Porcelain” (Lorde’s favorite) and “Wolf” (Katy Perry’s go-to jam). The Swede mixes it up, however, on recently-released EP, Stay Off My Mind. The tone is discernibly lighter, but there’s still a welcome edge. Take the title track, which sounds upbeat but is actually about the death of a friend. “It’s a song about missing someone so much that you’re living more in the past than in the present,” she reveals.

“It’s bittersweet because we can have such fond memories, but life goes on and sometimes having flashbacks can keep you from moving on.” The video for “Stay Off My Mind” arrives today (February 7) and it artfully plays with natural light as Skott cavorts in the woods, rocks a motorbike helmet and performs in a rustic venue for an audience of one. It’s simple, quirky and just melancholy enough to fit in with the rest of her videography. Watch up top.
