Adam Levine Gets Beat Up By Love In Maroon 5’s Dramatic “Wait” Video

When in doubt, two music videos are always better than one. Maroon 5 released a cutesy Snapchat-themed visual for their current single, “Wait,” last month. But they teamed up with director David Meyers for a second one, which was unveiled today (February 8). After the endearingly lo-fi treat, their latest is a return to form as frontman Adam Levine struggles to come to grips with a breakup. The end result is much more high-budget, and it definitely leaves an impression.

In the surreal video, Adam finds himself accosted by his ex, played by Alexandra Daddario, in various outrageous situations. He shows off his hot body at her funeral in the opening scene, but moments later he wakes up in a bar urinal as his furious lover dumps a bottle of liquor on him. Things only get stranger as the video proceeds. In another scene the couple find themselves in the middle of a war-torn environment. Bombs rain down around them, and they appear to come to grips with their unraveling relationship. The metaphor comes alive later as Alexandra drives away from their shared home and leaves things unwinding to their base components.

“Wait” could shape up to be a big hit for the super group. The introspective midtempo appeals to a different group of fans than their SZA-assisted lead single “What Lovers Do,” and it is steadily climbing the iTunes charts and racking up streams on Spotify and other platforms. Meyer’s artsy visual will undoubtedly spark conversations and provide it another push up the charts. Watch Maroon 5’s latest up top!
