Bands That Survived A Hiatus (And The Ones That Didn’t)

Indefinite hiatus are the two words no music fan wants to hear. It feels like an absolute death sentence. It’s almost like a softened way to tell your fans that you’re — in the words of Taylor Swift — never, ever, ever getting back together. While hiatuses have broken more bands than not, there are few projects that managed to survive the dreaded break (Fall Out Boy, we’re looking at you).

These amazing bands either came out swinging on the other side of a hiatus or fell victim to a break that was truly unending.

Before Lance Bass ever tried to become an astronaut and Justin Timberlake launched a booming solo career, *NSYNC was one of the most influential boy bands of the mid-’90s. In 2002, the band tragically announced that they were taking a “temporary hiatus,” but never returned. Five years later, both Timberlake and Bass confirmed the band “definitely broke up.”
