Your guide to New Music Friday featuring gems from Mallrat and MGMT.

MGMT made their first late-night TV appearance in support of Little Dark Age, their fourth album, last night (February 27) when they performed “Me And Michael” on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. They conveyed the song’s endearing ’80s vibe via VHS special effects and neon lighting. It’s easily the duo’s catchiest and most commercial release since the Oracular Spectacular era and benefits from a quirky video, which spins a fictional tale about them stealing the music and then being exposed for plagiarism.

The band returned later in the show for a bonus performance of signature song “Electric Feel,” alongside Jon Batiste and the Stay Human band. MGMT freshened up the track with a new arrangement, giving viewers some idea of what to expect when they embark on their world tour. The 32-date trek kicks off in St. Paul, MN on March 2 and winds up in Milan, Italy on July 17. Buy tickets here and check out their late-night adventures above and below.
