Sophia Black Interview
We speak to Sophia Black about her debut EP & Japanese boy bands.

Three years have passed since Sophia Black dropped her weird and wonderful debut EP in 2015, but she makes up for lost time with the “Real Shit.” Just don’t expect another dreamy synth-pop anthem like “Anchor.” This is a smooth hip-hop bop inspired by memes. “When he says he’ll call back so you made no plans, but now it’s 3am ’cause he never called back — that’s some real shit,” the pop star laments. “When you say you’re too grown for that drama mess, but when it really comes down you’re so into it — that’s some real shit.”

“In life, real shitty things happen and you can’t control it… but in the end everything works out and life’s cool,” Sophia explains. “I just wanted to make a song that’s lyrically inspired by memes and ‘Ironic’ by Alanis Morissette with a positive twist.” The relatable track was co-produced by Kool Kojack and Shea Taylor, and boasts a funny feature from Kyle (“I’ve only been to PornHub once and went to church the morning of”). “Real Shit” is the first taste of Sophia’s new EP, out later this spring. We’re excited to premiere the song below. It officially drops on Friday.
