Nicole Millar Interview
The rising Aussie pop star talks songwriting and new EP 'Communication.'

Nicole Millar has carved out a niche as Australia’s go-to dance-pop diva since landing a surprise hit with “High.” It didn’t take her long to sign a US deal and a five-song EP called Communication arrived in late 2016 via Casablanca Records. She now returns with “Gimme A Break,” an ’80s throwback about an overbearing boyfriend. “All my girls are saying I’m supposed to have fun and I don’t need nobody to be locking me down,” she purrs over Dan Farber’s retro beats on the chorus. “Won’t you gimme a break.”

“I’ve never really written anything like this song, which makes me so excited to show everyone,” Nicole says of her new single. “It’s basically a girl power anthem telling some dude how it is. It’s based off a story back in my teens of a guy that would message me from the moment I woke up into the night, constantly leaving me no room to breathe. And let’s be real, girls love the guys that ignore us!” Check out the instantly catchy bop below.
