2018 is shaping up to be all about Hayley Kiyoko. The budding superstar kickstarted a new era with one of the first truly great songs of the year when she rolled out her rollicking “Curious.” The LGBT anthem serves as the lead single to her debut LP, Expectations, and it is a massive pop moment that is picking up steam on radio and streaming services while garnering rave reviews. Today (March 16), she is offering up another taste of the album with her new buzz track “Let It Be.” Unsurprisingly, it is another stunner.

After the rubbery synths and buoyant beats that defined “Curious,” “Let It Be” is a more introspective moment. On it, she makes a heartfelt plea to a lover as they prepare to call it quits. “Baby come around cuz I need you. Baby calm me down, let me see you,” she coos over a whirling production on the opening lines. Unfortunately, they are unable to right the wrongs in their relationship and eventually make a decision to let things be.

“I believe we’re the ones who had it all. I believe we just had to learn to fall. I miss ya, I love ya, so it’s really hard to see. Yeah, we just gotta let it be,” she sadly realizes as a choir comes in underneath her voice. Things build up to a heartrending crescendo before quietly resolving, making for another intimate and emotional offering from the up-and-comer.

At the rate things are going, Expectations is shaping up to be one of the strongest releases of the year. We have already heard the project’s buzz track “Feelings,” which is another delightful alt-pop gem complete with a beguiling vocal track and enticing production flourishes. Things can only get better, as the tracklist boasts a collaboration with Kehlani.

Hayley is seriously picking up steam as the release date looms closer, and with any luck “Let It Be” will give her another major push before March 30. Give the track a spin below and pre-order the LP here!
