The highly anticipated Love, Simon soundtrack touched down today (March 16) carrying new music from the likes of Troye Sivan, , Jack Antonoff and more. With the 1989 and Melodrama creator stepping up to the role of executive producer, it lives up to expectations as a collection of infectious alt-pop confections. Previously we heard the lead single “Alfie’s Song (Not So Typical Love Song)” from Bleachers and Khalid and Normani’s sensual “Love Lies.” After an initial listen, it is clear that the rest of the material is equally impressive.

Troye beams down for an introspective midtempo on his contribution, “Strawberries & Cigarettes.” A left-over from 2015’s Blue Neighbourhood, it is a tender ode to a pair of young and rebellious lovers. “Long nights, daydreams. Sugar and smoke rings, I’ve been a fool. But strawberries and cigarettes always taste like you,” he pronounces over a twinkling production on the chorus. It is another impressive offering from the “My My My!” crooner and could enjoy its own run on the charts.

In comparison, MØ and Jack’s “Never Fall In Love” is a frenetic banger about the singer’s refusal to give her heart away. “I was lying when I told you that I love you, don’t give me your emotions,” she commands as the beat races along behind her. Lush with atmospheric synths and another compelling vocal performance from the “Get It Right” siren, it is another highlight. Other bright spots include Amy Shark’s heartfelt ballad “Sink In” and Bleacher’s atmospheric closer, “Wild Heart.”

The soundtrack also includes surefire bops from the likes of Whitney Houston and The Jackson 5. It is hard to compete with a hit as iconic as “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me),” but the group manages to pull it off with the right blend of heart and innovation. Give it a spin below!
