Daya Joins Forces With RL Grime On Their Earnest “I Wanna Know”
Daya joins forces with RL Grime on his new single, “I Wanna Know,” and it is an earnest bop that is ready to dominate radio. The twosome released their collaboration today (March 16) after announcing it and the producer’s second album earlier this week. After rolling out a slew of dark and brooding buzz tracks in 2017 including the bass-heavy “Era” and the Miquel-assisted “Stay For It,” his latest features a sparkling pop production and a plea for transparency from his partner.
Over twinkling synths and a driving beat, Daya delivers an impassioned vocal line. “There’s a light on your skin. Painted gold like your feet. If you’re gonna lean into me, make sure you feel the heat. You can take what you want, but when you take it from me I’ll make sure that you fall upon the floor down to your knees,” she warns as the production builds underneath her. Things reach a fever pitch on the chorus, as the 19-year-old puts her faith in her lover being by her side to support her. “I’m not betting on a miracle to give me peace. I’m not asking for a miracle, just you and me,” she finally announces.
The duo have already rolled out a lyric video in support of the project, and it features an arty collection of footage that flies across the screen alongside the heartfelt words. This feels like a fitting follow-up after unveiling her similarly reflective “New” last year, and it should net the pair a strong showing on the charts. Give the lyric video a view up top!
