Avicii, the Swedish DJ behind 2013’s “Wake Me Up” and last year’s Rita Ora-assisted “Without You,” was found dead today (April 20). The artist, real name Tim Bergling, was 28. His publicist Diana Baron confirmed the news and released a statement requesting privacy for his family at this time. “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii,” she said. “He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”

The cause of death is currently unknown. In 2016, Bergling announced plans to stop touring, citing health problems and the exhausting schedule. “Two weeks ago, I took a drive across the U.S. with my friends and team, just to look and see and think about things in a new way,” he said in a statement. “It really helped me realize that I needed to make the change that I’d been struggling with for a while.” Since then he has shifted his focus toward releasing music including his 2017 EP, AVĨCI (01). The music world is reeling as fans and collaborators take to social media to express their sorrow about the loss.
