Sigrid's 'Raw' Approach To Pop Music
Norway's next great pop export tells us about her authentic approach to pop.

Sigrid has had a huge couple of weeks. The Norwegian pop star released a trio of new songs, delivered two high-energy sets at Coachella and even snuck in a headlining gig at the El Rey in Los Angeles. She keeps the momentum going with a winning performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Instead of performing breakthrough hit, “Don’t Kill My Vibe,” or something brand new, the 21-year-old opted for “Strangers.” The upbeat pop song has been a massive hit in Europe and is catchy enough to do the same here.

As usual, Sigrid took a refreshingly raw approach to late-night TV. There was no choreography, slinky costume or heavy makeup. In fact, her only concession to the occasion was wearing a sparkly top under her overalls. That puts the focus on the newcomer’s bubbly presence (she literally bounces around the stage) and vocal talent. With a second EP on the way, 2018 could be the year that she cracks America. Watch Scandinavia’s next big pop export in action up top.
