Anticipation has been high for the arrival of Christina Aguilera and Demi Lovato’s “Fall In Line.” The hitmakers have been teasing the duet with coy interviews for what feels like months now. When it appeared on the tracklist for the 37-year-old’s forthcoming Liberation, it was easily one of the most desired tracks. Today (May 16) the powerful single finally arrived, and it was worth the wait.

Fans have been familiar with the song since a solo version of it leaked to the internet earlier this year. They knew it was a moment of empowerment as Xtina delivered vocal gymnastics and shared some wisdom with her younger fans. Considering Demi’s equally powerful pipes and her own tendency toward inspiring anthems, she is an obvious partner for the “Genie In A Bottle” singer. Together they find an easy chemistry over an evocative production and stun with beautiful harmonies.

“Little girls, listen closely. Cause no one told me, but you deserve to know. That in this world, you are not beholden. You do not owe them your body and your soul,” Christina belts on the opening lines. Demi comes in on the second verse to impart some wisdom of her own. “Ask yourself, why it matters. Who it flatters. You’re more than flesh and bone.” Coming together on the chorus, their voices rise in solidarity for one final message of resilience. “And I’m gonna pay for this. They’re gonna burn me at the stake. But I’ve got a fire in my veins. I wasn’t made to fall in line.”

Boasting a striking production and incredible performances from both Xtina and Demi, “Fall In Line” has all the signs of becoming a massive hit this summer. The Stripped diva is showing off her versatility on the LP so far. “Accelerate” highlighted her hip-hop sensibilities over its slick beats while “Twice” offered a moment for stunning balladry. However, this is the most pop and radio friendly song we have heard yet. It has been a while since the siren has conquered the Billboard Hot 100, and this surely deserves a crack at the charts.

Keep an eye peeled for the pair to take the stage at the Billboard Music Awards this Sunday (May 20). All things considered, I would not be surprised if their first televised performance of the defiant anthem is a highlight of the evening. Given their larger-than-life voices, they are sure to dazzle. Acquaint yourself with the track and check out the lyric video below while we wait to see the live debut this weekend!
