Will Smith, Nicky Jam & Era Istrefi linked up to roll out their searing anthem “Live It Up.” Released today (May 25), the single is the official song of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia. Known as the “biggest event in football” the tournament takes place every four years and brings teams from across the globe together to compete for the top honors. Each year is commemorated with a musical number (previous releases came from the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull, Claudia Leitte, Shakira and Freshlyground), and this year’s sounds like a massive hit.

Produced by Diplo, he said it was the most “international” song he’s ever made. “So many stars have come together to make a strong vibe,” he added. Over a racing beat, the hitmakers deliver rousing messages. “Live it up because we’ve got one life. One life, live it up, because you don’t get it twice,” Nicky Jam announces on the sing-along chorus. Era meanwhile delivers a unifying call to arms. “Strength in numbers is a force we can mix. We raise our flags and put our pride on our back,” the diva chants. Making a rare musical appearance, Will delivers a fierce rap that refers to the coming games. “One flag, oh yeah. We’ve been waiting for this all year. Where y’all at? We’re right here.”

Boasting a danceable production and a star-studded lineup, “Live It Up” is an impressive feat. The tournament kicks off on June 14, and by then it is safe to assume that it will have conquered charts worldwide. As an added bonus, the collaborators will perform the track on July 15 to celebrate the final matches of the competition. Will Smith opened up about the opportunity and had nothing but good things to say.

“It’s an honour to be asked to perform at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. This global event brings people from all over the world together to cheer, laugh and experience magic. Collaborating with Nicky, Diplo and Era on this track represents harmony, eclectic flavours and genres coming together. At the end of the day, we just want to see the world dance!” It seems safe to say that they will achieve their goals.

Keep an eye peeled for a music video, which is set to be released on June 7. Shot on location in Budapest, it is sure to be a visual treat. While we wait, give the high-octane banger a spin below!
