Jonas Blue Teams Up With Jack & Jack For Anthemic Banger “Rise”
Jonas Blue has an incredible track record of producing crossover club hits. Since arriving with a tropical house cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car,” the Brit has racked up global hits with “Perfect Strangers,” “By Your Side” and “Mama.” His hot streak continues in 2018 with “Hearts Ain’t Gonna Lie” (one of my favorite dance-pop songs of the year) and “Rise.” A collaboration with Vine-turned-pop stars Jack & Jack, the latter is a bright spot on an otherwise murky New Music Friday.
With uplifting lyrics about defying expectations and clever use of repetition (not to mention Jonas’ vibrant production), “Rise” has all the ingredients of a summer smash. “They trying to hate hate hate, but we won’t change change anything at all,” the twins sing on the catchy chorus. “We’re gonna ri-ri-ri-ri-rise ’til we fall.” That leads us to the song’s secret weapon — one of the wildest drops I’ve heard in a minute. “Beg” came really close, but Jack & Jack finally have their first major pop moment.
