Rita Ora Apologized For 'Girls'
Rita Ora issued an apology for 'Girls' after a major backlash from out artists.

Pop historians will be analyzing the “Girls” trainwreck for years to come. The modern-day “Lady Marmalade” crashed and burned when the lyrics, which treat bisexuality as a party trick, sparked a backlash from fans and out artists. It didn’t help that song is a hook-free turd in addition to being problematic. It seems fitting then, that the video is also something of a mess. Rita Ora comes out best, looking like an ethereal goddess in her segment, which is filmed in a lush, garden paradise.

The issue is the inability of the collaborators to be in the same place at the same time. While Rita does her thing in an Eden-like environment, Charli XCX goes for a swing in a dark forest. At least that’s vaguely connected, unlike Bebe Rexha’s out-of-focus, mirror segment or Cardi B’s corny virtual reality moment. It would have been nice if the video had been used to shine a light on LGBTQ+ issues instead of being a glorified glamour reel, but at least it isn’t blatantly offensive. Watch up top and revisit one of Rita’s good collaborations below.
