Lauren Jauregui offered fans the first taste of new music since Fifth Harmony embarked on an indefinite hiatus last month. The 21-year-old hit the road with Halsey on the Latin American leg of her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom World Tour. They kicked off the stretch of shows with a set in Sao Paolo, Brazil yesterday (June 6), and while onstage she live-premiered three new original songs. This was a night of firsts for the “Work From Home” diva. Although she has stretched her wings by lending her voice to club-ready collaborations with the likes of Steve Aoki and Marian Hill, this was her first time taking the stage as a solo act. Additionally, the three songs she debuted, “Toy,” “Inside” and “Expectations,” signify the first truly solo material we have heard from her. And the trio highlights her eclectic tastes and promises big things for an official debut later this year.

Opening her set with “Toy,” she delivered a fierce message over a pop/rock production. “I’m not your toy. I don’t want to be played,” she announced as drums crashed underneath her soaring voice. She followed that up with some soul searching on “Inside,” which sounds like a massive pop ballad. This sounds the most in line with the hitmaker’s previous work as part of 5H and could easily become a breakout anthem if it gets released as a single. “I’m going to leave you with one more song. I hope you fuck with it,” she said before closing out her set with “Expectations.” The R&B-tinged cut sees her speaking directly to a lover over electric strings. “Wish I had no expectations. I wish that I could get into your head,” she laments on the chorus.

After the show, Lauren opened up about the new music in a series of posts on Twitter. She explained that “Inside” was the first song she had written. She went on to add that it “has a huge a part of my heart in it.” She also described “Toy” as one of her “absolute faves.” She expressed her gratitude for fans after finishing her first performance on the tour. “GUYS IM SCREAMING OH MY GOD SEEING ALL OF YOUR REACTIONS TO THESE SONGS AND LITERALLY PEOPLE WERE ALREADY SINGING THEM BY THE END OF THEM I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!! Obrigada São Paulo you have my heart forever!! First show ever DONE.”

Things are looking good for the various members of Fifth Harmony. Former member Camila Cabello is still burning up the charts with “Never Be The Same” and is getting ready to replicate the feat with her Pharrell-assisted “Sangria Wine.” Meanwhile, Normani made a strong debut earlier this year with her slinky Khalid collaboration, “Love Lies.” Ally Brooke and Dinah Jane have stayed a bit more under the radar but are sure to debut new music soon. Hopefully Lauren will be the latest member to tackle the charts. With any luck, we will get a studio version of several of the new songs in the near future.
